Ensuring a Safe Global Workforce

Ensuring safe global workforceMore and more companies are implementing travel risk management (TRM) protocols for their employees in increasing numbers, according to a study released by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA).

Of the 250 travel managers, security officers and human resources personnel surveyed, 83% reported their travel programs have TRM protocols in place to ensure the safety and well-being of their business travelers.

Of the ones who don’t, 60% said they are planning to adopt TRM protocols within the next two years.

TRM Protocols

TRM protocols increasingly rely on technology, such as apps and text messaging, to track and communicate with road warriors. In addition to traveler tracking and automated communication about real-time risks, the study found that typical features of TRM protocols include:

  • pre-travel approval, information and preparation
  • locally available assistance services, including local providers and security assistance
  • and a travel concierge

The benefit for companies that have adopted TRM protocols is that they can easily locate employees who are traveling and verify their safety much faster than those who have yet to adopt these protocols. For example, a recent study found that when an incident occurs it takes about 90 minutes to confirm every employee’s safety.

Of those surveyed, half of the respondents ranked automated SMS in their top three communication channels, while 39% ranked manual SMS in the top three. Mobile apps were ranked in the top three by 36% of respondents.

Safety protocols at Teddys

Did you know that we monitor every car in our fleet while it is on the road?

We know in real time where every one of our passengers is located, which provides support for our client companies in maintaining their duty of care for their business travelers. In addition, we only hire chauffeurs who pass FBI fingerprint background and drug tests AND who carry an up-to-date medical card.

The Connecticut Westchester chapter of the Business Travel Association (CWBTA) will focus on strategies for developing a savvy and safe global workforce at its meeting on September 8. Speakers will cover topics such as how to lower overall risk through Personal Travel Security Awareness Training, as well as travel security concerns specific to women.

If you are interested in learning more about duty of care, especially as it applies to your protocols for chauffeured ground transportation, or if you are interested in knowing more about CWBTA or the September meeting, I’d be happy to speak with you.
