Delayed Flight at Kennedy Airport? – 3 Ways to Kill Time

Ways to kill time when your flight is delayedSo you’re stranded at JFK and you have an evening to kill. Unfortunately, you may have already checked your bags or run out of clothes to wear the next day. Maybe you just want to do some shopping while you wait. The good news is that JFK’s central location makes it easy to access lots of shopping and dining.

Visit King’s Plaza Mall

If you just need to make a short trip to go pick up an extra change of clothes and some necessities, King’s Plaza Mall is a good place to start. It is a little on the small side as far as shopping malls go, but it is only about 10 minutes away from the airport via public transportation so you don’t have to worry about paying a ton for a cab.

Shop Roosevelt Field or the Manhattan Mall

If you find yourself with a lot of extra time to kill and you really want to make the most of NY’s upscale shopping, Roosevelt Field is where it’s at. Depending on your route it is about 45 minutes away from the airport on Long Island, but the journey is well worth the trouble. Here you will find one of New York’s nicest malls with a huge selection of boutique shops and restaurants. Manhattan Mall is roughly the same distance away, but is geared toward a younger crowd. However, many large department stores have a big presence on the same road so you can walk from place to place.

Multi-Cultural Dining

New York has a legendary claim to some of the nation’s most diverse foods. Right outside of JFK is a slew of incredible, authentic international restaurants. First off, New York’s Italian food is a must try for anyone who loves fine dining. Both Don Peppe and Matteo’s are great options that are just a few minutes from the airport. If you want something a little more fiery, the The Door and the Lindenwood Diner offer central American and Jamaican dishes that are to die for. London Lennie’s is a NY staple for fresh seafood prepared in a stunning array of dishes.

Being stuck in New York doesn’t mean you have to do without. New York is one of the most exciting places in the world, and you can spend your extra time exploring all of the amazing food and shopping that has earned the city its reputation.
