Weekend Travel Advisories in NYC

NYC Travel Advisories & TrafficAs we head into Labor Day weekend, residents and travelers in NYC should be on the lookout for major traffic delays and detours. There is plenty of construction going on this week, and some of it will be boiling over into the weekend with bridge and lane closures. Here’s what you need to be prepared:

In Manhattan

Be on the lookout for several street closures due to crane operations over the weekend. There will be complete road closures on Cornelia Street and Downing Street for major gas installations as well. These will be going throughout Saturday and Sunday.

Starting Saturday off right, there will be the Percy Sutton Harlem 5K and Health Walk beginning at 8:30 AM. The walk is scheduled to conclude by 10AM. It will be beginning on St. Nicholas Avenue near West 127th Street, and follows a winding path through the city.

The Go Topless March will be taking place Saturday from 1-2PM in the area of Bryant Park. A portion of the march route is limited to the bike lanes and curbs only, but you should still expect traffic along the way.

The 8th Avenue Festival will be open to pedestrians all day Saturday on 8th Avenue between 42nd and 57th Streets.

In Brooklyn

Over in Brooklyn, there is also plenty of construction to speak of. The biggest updates for this weekend are the 41st Annual Brighton Jubilee which will be going on all day Sunday on Brighton Beach Avenue and Coney Island Avenue. The Brooklyn Dominican Day Parade will also be taking place Sunday afternoon over on Graham Avenue.

CityWide

Aside from these specific events, the DOT Weekend Walks series continues throughout all major parts of the city. There will be multiple walks taking place in the Bronx, Queens, and other areas with a variety of themes. These walks will take place on both Saturdays and Sundays.

The DOT has also made some major announcements about the Ed Koch Bridge Entrance Ramp at 58th Street where there will be major lane closures as they focus on repairing the bridge.

For more information about specific parade routes and closures, the NYC DOT publishes a full list of expected closures with regular updates. You may visit their site and find any last minute announcements for street festivals, marches and more every week throughout the year. They also provide information about the DOT Weekend Walks programs if you are interested in joining.
