If you’re planning on spending the holidays in New York City, you’re in for a real treat! Manhattan is full of great shows, beautiful light displays, and incredible shopping opportunities. Here’s a preview of things you can do with the whole family in NYC this winter.
Go Ice Skating in Central Park
A favorite tradition of New Yorkers, Central Park is turned into a gorgeous ice rink that’s perfect for skaters new and old. Enjoy a cup of hot coffee or cocoa at the rink side and then get out there and zip around on the ice with the kids. Keep in mind that thousands of people come to NY every winter, so you should plan on taking private transport if you want to get to the rink and beat the crowds.
The Rockettes
The legendary Rockettes put on their traditional Christmas show five nights a week so you can purchase tickets anytime. You won’t want to miss the show that has transcended generations and brought families together for decades.
Take a Ride Down 5th Avenue
5th Avenue is home to some of the largest department stores in America. If you and the kids enjoy driving around looking at Christmas lights back home, now is your chance to experience the same thing in NYC. Each department store chooses a theme and puts together a massive display on 5th Ave. This is a journey that is best enjoyed from the comfort of a private car so you can enjoy the sights and not feel rushed. When you’re done on 5th Avenue, have the driver take you out to Dyker Heights in Brooklyn where you will see another series of tremendous displays.
Support Local Artists
If you love giving handmade gifts, stop by Union Square and visit the Holiday Market. This market features unique trinkets and products made by locals. You can find just about anything there, and you’ll discover a number of artists hailing from different nationalities that bring their own unique flavor to their art.
The holidays in New York are unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. Manhattan comes to life in vivid colors and brings people together. Everyone gets into the spirit and you’ll have a chance to see parts of the city that you wouldn’t see during any other time of year. Make sure you reserve private transportation well in advance because traffic will be tricky, and trains will be overflowing. As long as you have your own car to ride in, you can avoid many of the long waits.
