In the world of luxury sedans, the Lincoln Continental holds a special place in history. The architect Frank Lloyd Wright once described the Continental as “the most beautiful car in the world” while John Steinbeck said “no other car so satisfied my soul.”
Because of this car’s heritage and cachet, many in the automotive industry were thrilled to hear that Lincoln Motor Company would be offering the iconic model once again, after a 15-year hiatus. Manufactured in Flat Rock, Michigan, the new Continental is the tenth generation of the line and the successor to the Lincoln MKS.
The new model offers a slew of high-end features in addition to traditional touches such as its classic lines and Bridge of Weir leather seats. We wonder what Wright and Steinbeck would think of the model’s feather-light, electronically latched door pulls and seats that can be adjusted in 30 ways, to say nothing of the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping technology. Other features include a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces up to 400 horsepower, exterior ambient lighting that activates when the driver approaches, torque vectoring, a 360-degree camera system and collision assist with pedestrian detection.
A “Quiet Luxury” Experience for Executive Travelers
Here at Teddy’s, we remain committed to offering what Lincoln calls “quiet luxury.” That’s why we’ve signed on buy two of the first five 2017 Continentals off the line. We expect to take delivery around October 2016. And if the new Continental is as reliable and comfortable as the manufacturer claims, we expect to replace our MKS cars with Continentals.
