The weather outside is frightening, and now is your chance to get away from it all by heading to a warmer climate. Unfortunately, this year’s hurricanes have damaged many of the popular travel destinations in tropical areas, so you’re going to have to look elsewhere if you want to enjoy some sun. That’s why we’ve put together a list of great escapes for January that you can definitely afford.
Mexico
Mexico has plenty of beaches and warm weather. You can find tons of great resorts at major ports. There are plenty of activities to join in on, plus there are great foods to try. If you’ve always wanted to travel internationally, this is a good chance to do so.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
This gigantic indoor water park and resort is one of Tennessee’s hidden gems. Nestled into the Smoky Mountains, you can enjoy a week full of swimming, water slides, and an incredible indoor/outdoor hot tub. There’s a huge arcade and climbing gym for the kids, as well as bowling, laser tag, and a rope course. The indoor water park is kept at a comfortable temperature, and you can even tan through their special roof.
Hawaii
Hawaii is a long time favorite of winter travelers seeking warmth, and you can typically find good deals on round-trip fares from New York or California. There are tons of private hotels and AirBnB rooms available at great prices as well.
Cambodia
Go big or go home! You can now travel all the way to Southeast Asia at a huge discount. Round trips to Cambodia are around $600-700, and you can find cheap hotels just about everywhere. The region is full of history, and there are tons of incredible monuments to see.
South America
If you want to go somewhere new, but you don’t think Mexico will cut it, consider some of the smaller nations in South America instead. Uruguay is just one of the nations that has a lush forest and warm climate this time of year. You can explore their cultural center and take a ride out into some of the rural communities full of native artists.
There are so many affordable travel destinations this year if you are willing to think outside of the box. While travelers wait for the islands to rebuild after the hurricanes, you can still explore places near and far without breaking the bank.
