Consider Being a Career Professional Private Car Driver

Chauffeur Driving a CarIn an upcoming blog post, we’ll describe some of the characteristics that make a great private car driver: things like excellent people skills, preparation, attention to detail and being resourceful. Another thing to consider is that being a private car driver, or a chauffeur as we prefer to call them, can be a rewarding career, if you’re cut out for it.

Our drivers thrive on looking their best, driving a beautiful car, making great tips, staying busy, and working without a boss looking over their shoulder. And we just happen to be hiring chauffeurs.

Why Work as a Private Car Driver for Teddy’s?

One of the best things about working for Teddy’s is the atmosphere of professionalism and respect that we offer. Anyone who has worked in the hospitality industry knows that a healthy work environment is not always guaranteed: When things get busy, it’s easy for people to lose their tempers. There can be a lot of pressure, especially with the high expectations of our clientele. But we pride ourselves on running a smooth operation, following industry best practices and treating our employees well.

We also offer our drivers health insurance and a reputable 401k program, as well as perks such as a $500 signing bonus and cash awards of up to $6,000 as part of our “chauffeur of the year” contest. We don’t know of any other livery company that offers a comparable level of benefits and bonuses. Our chauffeurs are also supported by a highly experienced customer service team and state-of-the-art tools such as tracking systems, a mobile booking app and company tablets with Waze traffic management software. We also handle major care and upkeep for our cars.

Locally and in the livery business, Teddy’s has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations. For example, Teddy’s is a past finalist in the University of Connecticut School of Business’s Family Business of the Year award and we are regularly nominated as a Top Workplace in the Connecticut Post’s annual competition.

What It’s Like to be a Private Car Driver for Teddy’s

Teddy’s has about 40 drivers on payroll right now, and we’re looking to add another five or so full- and part-time drivers as our busy season picks up after the Labor Day holiday. We’re looking for strong communicators who have a flair for hospitality, a positive attitude, great communication skills, and at least eight months of experience driving professionally in the Connecticut/New York area. Drivers also need to be at least 25 years old and have a clean driving record, a Public Passenger Endorsement and all necessary certifications from the Connecticut DMV (a process that takes eight to 12 weeks).

For our full-time drivers, assignments go out around 11 am. The workday usually starts around 3 pm or 4 pm and ends between 10 pm and after midnight. During these hours our drivers benefit from one of the best things about working for Teddy’s: They stay busy, which means more rides and the opportunity for more tips. In fact, our drivers often have twice the trip count as other local livery companies, which means that they can expect twice the tips. We’re one of the top fleets in the area in terms of trip counts and our on-time score for the first half of 2016 was 99.68%.

These statistics, along with the great work environment, are a big reason why many of our drivers come to us from other livery companies. On average, our new drivers have more than five years of prior chauffeur experience. We also have a turnover rate that’s much lower than the industry average. Many of our chauffeurs have been with Teddy’s for eight or more years.

In fact, to get a good idea of the quality of our chauffeurs, just check out the Testimonials page on our website. And if all this sounds like your kind of a job, give us a call: For more information about driving for Teddy’s, call Cory Marker at 203-866-2231.
