This holiday season, Teddy’s Transportation System has partnered with Toys for Tots to further their causes in the New York and Connecticut areas.
Now until December 13th, when you take a Teddy’s or Merritt car service to or from the airport, you can leave your unwrapped toy donation with your chauffeur, making your donation just as easy as your ride to the airport. All donations are incredibly appreciated; however, we do know there is a shortage in our area in particular of toys for older children (a wide array of baby toys are donated, but there’s still a need for toys designed for children up to age 13).
Helping Local Children in Need
According to the 2017 census data, nearly 40 million people in the United States live in poverty. Of those 40 million people, the National Center for Children in Poverty states that 15 million are children. This means that more than 20% of those living in poverty are children.
In many cases, these children live with parents who do work, but factors such as instability, low wages and health issues, coupled with high costs of living, lead to a less than an ideal lifestyle. These struggles often increase in the winter when additional costs arise, such as heating bills or even just the price of taking a family member to the doctor during the cold and flu seasons. For these families in particular, Christmas can create additional stress on parents and guardians..
Toys for Tots alleviates some of that stress from families struggling to give their children a traditional Christmas experience, by providing children’s gifts donated by community members. New, unwrapped toys are distributed to children up to the age of 13 all over the country, giving them a message of hope during a time in which they need it most. And, while Christmas is certainly not all about the toys, it’s undeniable that there’s something joyful and pure about a child’s excitement upon receiving an unexpected present.
While Toys for Tots is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program, the charity does rely heavily on its regional partners — including local businesses — to help with collecting toys and spreading its mission.
